There are ten retention ponds around Sandy Ridge and these have to be monitored and treated to ensure they remain in good, healthy order at all times
The contract for the maintenance of all the ponds is currently with Aquatic Systems Inc. who are responsible for:
. algae and aquatic weed control
. grass control to the water's edge
. water chemistry testing
. stocking and permitting for triploid carp
It has been decided that use of the carp to control aquatic vegetation will be both more cost effective and nature friendly by reducing the amounts of chemicals required to keep the ponds in order. Carp were introduced early in 2011 following grant of the appropriate permit from Polk County
It is illegal to fish in any of the retention ponds
